สายไฟ สายไฟฟ้าที่ใช้กับเครื่องใช้ไฟฟ้า (Home Appiance Wire) สายไฟฟ้าชนิดแรงดันต่ำ โดยมีอุณหภูมิที่ฉนวนทนได้ 60oC, 70oC, 90oC, 105oC เป็นสายไฟฟ้าที่ใช้กับตู้เย็น, ทีวี, เตารีด, แอร์ เป็นต้น เช่นสายไฟฟ้าชนิดชนิด VFF, VTF, VSF สำหรับสายไฟฟ้าที่ใช้ในงานไฟฟ้าสามารถแบ่งออกได้หลายประเภทตามลักษณะการใช้งาน ซึ่งในทางเทคนิคมีชื่อเรียกกันดังนี้ – Wire หมายถึงเส้นลวดที่ใช้เป็นสายตัวนำไฟฟ้า (เปลือย ) – Cord หมายถึงสายไฟฟ้าที่มีขนาดเล็ก มีฉนวนแบบอ่อนตัวที่สามารถบิดงอได้ง่ายที่ใช้ตามบ้านอาคารทั่วไป – Cable หมายถึงสายไฟฟ้าขนาดใหญ่ที่มีฉนวนป้องกันไฟฟ้ารั่วไหลได้อย่างมั่นคงปลอดภัย ใช้ฝังใต้ดิน ทอดข้ามแม่น้ำ หรือเป็นสายเปลือยแขวนลอย ลักษณะที่สำคัญของสายไฟฟ้าจะอยู่ที่ความสามารถที่จะยอมให้กระแสไฟฟ้าไหลได้สูงสุดและองค์ประกอบอื่น ๆ เช่น ชนิดของตัวนำไฟฟ้าและฉนวนที่หุ้ม ประเภทของการใช้งาน แรงดันไฟฟ้าที่สายไฟฟ้าจะทนได้ขณะใช้งาน และสภาพความแข็งแรงทางกล สายไฟฟ้า(Electric Wire and cable) เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของอุปกรณ์ไฟฟ้าที่ขาดไม่ได้ เป็นส่วนที่สำคัญส่วนหนึ่งในการเดินสายไฟฟ้าตามแหล่งต่างๆ สายไฟฟ้า การแบ่งประเภทของสายไฟฟ้า สายไฟฟ้าสามารถแบ่งออกได้ 2 ประเภท คือ 1. สายไฟฟ้าที่มีฉนวนห่อหุ้ม สายไฟฟ้าชนิดนี้มีใช้งานกันมากตามอาคารบ้านเรือน และอุปกรณ์ไฟฟ้าหลาย ๆ ชนิด สายไฟฟ้าที่มีฉนวนห่อหุ้มยังมีหลายชนิดได้แก่ – สายไฟฟ้าที่ห่อหุ้มภายนอกด้วยด้ายถัก ได้แก่ สายไฟฟ้าที่ห่อหุ้มด้วยยาง แต่ภายนอกจะถักด้ายห่อหุ้มอีกชั้นหนึ่ง ใช้กับเตารีดและเครื่องให้ความร้อน – สายหุ้มยาง เป็นสายไฟฟ้าที่หุ้มด้วยยางที่มีทั้งแบบธรรมดาและแบบทนความร้อน สายไฟฟ้าแบบนี้จะเปื่อยและเสื่อมคุณภาพเร็ว ปัจจุบันไม่ค่อยนิยมใช้งาน – สายหุ้ม PVC ชนิดนี้มีความทนทานต่อดินฟ้าอากาศ ไม่ติดไฟ ทนความร้อน แข็งเหนียว ไม่เปื่อยง่าย นิยมใช้งานมากที่สุด – สายหุ้มพลาสติกธรรมดา เป็นสายอ่อนเส้นเล็ก ภายในมีหลายเส้น เป็นสายไฟที่ไม่ถาวร ติดไฟได้ง่าย – สายเดี่ยว เป็นสายไฟฟ้า 1 เส้น มี 1 แกน ใช้เดินทั้งภายในและภายนอกอาคาร สายไฟฟ้าชนิดนี้ ถ้าเดินในอาคารนิยมใช้ร้อยในท่อแล้วยึดท่อกับผนัง หรือฝังท่อในเสาหรือพื้น บางครั้งก็นำมาใช้เดินภายนอกอาคาร การเดินสายเดี่ยวนี้ไม่นิยมเดินตีคลิป แต่จะเดินในท่อหรือวางรางเหล็กเสมอ หรือยึดติดกับผนังโดยใช้ประกับยึดเป็นช่วง ๆ – สายคู่ เป็นายไฟฟ้าที่ใช้เดินภายในอาคาร เป็นสายไฟฟ้าชนิด 1 เส้นมี 2 แกนหรือาจทำพิเศษให้มี 3 แกน โดยมีสายดินอีก 1 แกน สายไฟ สายไฟ
